One-Timer

It’s been a little while and there’s a lot to catch up on…
 
 
The B’s were in action last night as they took on the Anaheim Mighty Ducks at the TD Garden.  For their 4 game in a row, the B’s got off to a slow start.  Anaheim opened up the scoring 15 minutes in off of a Brandon McMillan goal that beat Tim Thomas.  It was surprising that the B’s made it out of the first period only down a goal, considering the Ducks carried the play.  The Ducks extended their lead to 2 goals early in the second.  The Ducks also added a short-handed goal later in the period to clinch the 3-0 win.  Tim Thomas was alright in net, making 22 saves.  However, it’s the offense that’s in question.  Former #3 overall pick Nathan Horton has been struggling as of late, contributing no points during the B’s 4 game slide.  It feels there could be a change coming, whether it be Claude Julien or a major trade that happens.  The B’s have been getting solid goaltending from Thomas, but they’re having trouble scoring.  It’ll be an interesting next few weeks for the B’s; we’ll see if they continue to slide.  They’re in action again Thursday night against the Thrashers.
The Sox have been doing some wheeling and dealing to finalize their roster for opening day.  Their focus the past week since their huge off-season splashes has been the bullpen.  The Sox locked up former Chicago White Sox closer Bobby Jenks to a 2 year, $12 million deal, pending today’s physical.  This could prove to be a great pickup if he can return to his form from a few years ago.  Also, the Sox signed relievers Dan Wheeler, Matt Albers, Andrew Miller, and Rich Hill to deals.  The bullpen looks like it’s starting to come together.  (Other notes: Fan favorite Lenny DiNardo has come back to Boston on a minor league deal…… The Sox sent Eric Patterson to the Padres as the player to be named later in the Adrian Gonzalez trade.) 
Coming off their big Sunday night win against the Packers, the Pats are close to clinching both the division and the #1 seed in the playoffs.  At 12-2, the Pats have 2 games left to play.  Both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets hold 10-4 records.  If the Pats win either of their last two games, they will clinch both the division and the #1 seed in the AFC.  Also, they can clinch if both the Steelers and Jets lose any of their last two games also.  In reality, the Pats have 3+ weeks to sure up their defense to make another run at the Lombardi Trophy.
Another quick note, Shaq conducted the Boston Pops last night.  He’s really stepped in to the Boston scene!
